A highlight of the Salzburg Festival 2013 was in the Verdi year the celebrated performance of Verdi's opera Don Carlo directed by Peter Stein in top cast: with Jonas Kaufmann and Anja Harteros, the "dream couple of the opera", with Thomas Hampson and Matti Salminen. In addition to the interesting direction of Peter Stein, it was above all the musical performance that delighted the audience: the Vienna Philharmonic always found the right sound language under the direction of Antonio Pappano, and the singers played and sang fabulously.
